Cardiac Nursing at Lehigh Valley Hospital

Why it’s the perfect career for you

Professional opportunities and excellent benefits are available to you as a cardiac nurse at Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network (LVHHN). Foremost, you’ll work at the Lehigh Valley’s only Magnet hospital, the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s highest honor of nursing excellence. You’ll receive excellent benefits, like free health care, enjoy flexible scheduling, have opportunities to continue your education, and make significant contributions to patient care through LVHHN’s professional practice model.

Here’s what makes a career in cardiac nursing at LVHHN unique:

State-of-the-art Care – LVHHN stays up to date as advancements are made in cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology. As a nurse in these fields, you’ll use state-of-the-art equipment, learn the latest procedures and conduct research to discover new ways of providing superior care.

Advanced ICU – From a remote location, our tele-intensivists use high resolution audio/visual equipment to monitor patients in our open heart and acute coronary units for 12 hours overnight. This higher level of care provides an extra set of eyes and is a resource for the bedside nurse to help detect problems earlier and provide faster treatment.

Universal Bed – At LVH-Muhlenberg’s Regional Heart Center surgical and vascular unit, patients remain in the same bed from admission to discharge. This allows you to become more involved in every aspect of your patients’ care and gives you the chance to get to know your patients personally.

C ollaborative Rounds – In our surgical units, the entire health care team (physicians, nurses, therapists, dietitians, etc.) meets in a patient’s room with their family members present. This allows you to stay updated on your patient’s care and provides an opportunity for all caregivers and family members to ask questions of one another.

Paperless Documentation – In our critical care units, you’ll use MetaVision, a paperless charting system that collects data from all monitoring equipment. In our low-level and medical/surgical units, you’ll use an online documentation system. Because you’re not bogged down with paperwork, you’ll have more time to deliver care at the bedside.

Focus on Education – When you join our team, an extensive orientation program will provide the education you need to help you feel comfortable in your new role. You can tap the knowledge and skills of our dedicated unit-based nurse educators. You’ll also receive constant support from your nursing leaders, unit directors and patient care coordinators.

Respect from Physician Colleagues – The collaborative relationship between LVHHN physicians and nurses is truly unique. In a recent survey, physicians said one of the best things about practicing at LVHHN is our nurses’ skills, competence and ability to provide quality care.
